A guide grounded in real experience
We discovered the Canary Islands in 2023, during a first trip to Fuerteventura. It was love at first sight: we went back in 2025, and we intend to keep exploring the archipelago, island by island, in the years ahead.
The site does not claim to have covered every corner of the island: it draws on first-hand experience, backed by careful research across reliable sources, including local and Spanish sites, to cover the island properly.
Thirty years with Spain
This passion for the Canary Islands is part of a much longer story. I fell in love with Spain in 1996, during an Erasmus exchange, and I lived there for eight years, from 1996 to 2004, between Madrid and Barcelona.
Since then, I've gone back regularly, almost every year. Over thirty years, I've had the chance to discover nearly all of Spain's autonomous communities: Madrid, Catalonia, Galicia, Asturias, the Basque Country, Andalusia, Castile and León, Castilla-La Mancha, Valencia, and many more.
Why this guide
I created canariesguide.com to keep a living connection with the Canary Islands and keep exploring them, with the idea of spending time there regularly, and perhaps settling there one day.
My wife and children share this affection for Spain, and my kids enjoy learning Spanish. With this guide, I hope to eventually discover the rest of the archipelago, one island at a time.
Our approach
Practical, verified information over superlatives: indicative prices, real constraints (tracks, seasons, bookings), the good and the less good surprises.
