Data controller

The data controller for personal data collected on canariesguide.com is Le J, who publishes the site on a non-professional basis (see the Legal notice). For any question about your personal data, contact him at canariesguide.lej@gmail.com.

Data collected and purposes

Audience measurement: if you consent, Google Analytics 4 collects technical data (truncated IP address, device and browser type, pages visited, time on site, traffic source) to help us understand how the site is used and improve its content.

Affiliate link tracking: if you consent to the "personalised advertising" category, clicking an affiliate link may be recorded for statistical purposes only (programme, category, island, language) — this does not build an advertising profile about you on this site.

Contact: if you email us, your address and message content are processed solely to reply to you.

canariesguide.com has no user accounts, no newsletter and no comment form: no other personal data is collected directly by the site.

Legal basis for processing

Audience-measurement and affiliate-tracking cookies are only set after your explicit consent, collected via the banner shown on your first visit, in line with the UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). Cookies strictly necessary for the site to function do not require consent.

Processing your email when you contact us relies on our legitimate interest in responding to your enquiry.

Cookies and trackers

The site uses a consent management banner (Silktide Consent Manager) letting you accept or reject, category by category: essential cookies (always active, required for the site to work), audience-measurement cookies (Google Analytics 4) and personalised-advertising cookies (linked to affiliate links).

Until you give your consent, no audience-measurement or advertising cookie is set (Google's default consent mode: everything denied). You can change your choice at any time via the preferences banner, available at the bottom of every page.

Data recipients and transfers outside the UK/EEA

Audience-measurement data is processed by Google Ireland Limited (Google Analytics 4); the site is hosted by Vercel Inc., a US company. These providers may transfer data to the United States, on the basis of Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK's International Data Transfer Addendum where applicable), the safeguard mechanism required for transfers outside the UK/EEA.

Clicking an affiliate link (accommodation booking, car hire, activities) takes you to the partner's own website, which applies its own privacy policy. canariesguide.com does not share any personal data about you with these partners beyond the fact of the click itself.

Retention period

Your consent choice is stored for 6 months, after which the banner is shown again. Google Analytics 4 data is kept for a maximum of 14 months before automatic deletion. Emails exchanged via the Contact page are kept for as long as needed to handle your enquiry.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict and object to the processing of your data, and to data portability, as well as the right to withdraw your consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal. To exercise these rights, contact us at canariesguide.lej@gmail.com.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) — ico.org.uk — if you believe your rights are not being respected.

Security

The site relies on Vercel's secure infrastructure (HTTPS encryption, DDoS protection) and on the security measures Google applies to Google Analytics 4. canariesguide.com does not collect any payment or sensitive data.
