Unlike Sotavento or Cofete, Costa Calma is an urban, family-friendly beach: the seafront promenade runs right along the sand, lined with shops, terraces and hotels. The soft, pale sand and shallow water in places make it a comfortable spot for a family day out, with no slopes or rocks to watch for.
Staying and eating right on the beach
Another perk of the area: several Costa Calma hotels open directly onto the beach, with pools and kids' clubs, alongside more couple-focused adults-only properties. Restaurants and shops line the promenade, just steps from the sand — a classic stop on a family tour of the island.
Gentle watersports: windsurfing, paddleboarding, snorkelling
While it can't rival the Sotavento lagoon for kitesurfing, Costa Calma remains a good spot to start out: windsurfing and paddleboarding are accessible to beginners on this more sheltered stretch of coast, and a few snorkelling spots reward you with fish around the rocks.
