The resort's main draw: most hotels in Costa Calma open directly onto the beach, with no built-up area to cross, plus landscaped pools and bright rooms. The overall mood is more relaxed than the busier resorts further north.
Standards along this southern shore are rising, and 2026 brought the clearest proof of it. A few kilometres south of the resort, on Sotavento beach (Playa de Barca) and still on the JandÃa peninsula, the Paradisus Fuerteventura — the former Hotel Los Gorriones, now flying the Meliá flag — was named Best Resort in Spain at the first edition of the Forbes Travel Awards, handed out in Madrid. The hotel is not part of Costa Calma resort itself, but the award, given for its experiential luxury offer, its rootedness in the destination and its sustainability commitments, is a useful benchmark for the quality now on offer along this stretch of coast — the same shoreline the Costa Calma properties sit on.
June 2026 added a second name to that same stretch of sand. Meliá and former tennis player Rafa Nadal officially opened the ZEL Fuerteventura on Sotavento beach, the fourth property under their ZEL Hotels lifestyle brand and its first anywhere in the Canary Islands. It has 142 rooms and suites, each with a terrace or balcony looking out over the ocean or the natural landscape around it. Alongside the neighbouring Paradisus, it turns this part of the coast into a small wellness- and lifestyle-led cluster, a short drive from the Costa Calma hotels.
Family or adults-only: two types of hotel
Costa Calma offers both types of property, as in Caleta de Fuste or Morro Jable. The family-focused H10 Tindaya has a kids' pool and entertainment; the adults-only H10 Playa Esmeralda goes for a more hushed atmosphere, well suited to a relaxed couple's break.
